Justin Bieber, Heartthrobs, and Little Boys Singing

How many of you saw Never Say Never, Justin Bieber’s hit 3-D movie? Come on…admit it! Though I begrudgingly took my seven year old Luke to see it several months ago, I was the one who walked out of the theatre skipping to the “Baby Baby” beat.

As a parent, it’s hard not to look upon Bieber’s story without feeling a bit of admiration. He found a passion at a very early age and has had the courage to pursue his dreams – working very hard along the way. He seems to have supportive parents, grandparents and friends. And instead of combating drugs and alcohol, the production and management crew spend time conjuring silly pranks to pull on him (and vice versa).

Even if you don’t have a little one, the movie is now available for rent/sale. As a second best, you can watch my little Luke performing as Justin Bieber (or “Beaver,” as he says) in his school’s talent show yesterday. He was much more nervous than six months ago when he danced to Michael Jackson, but I’m very proud of him nonetheless. Please excuse the :10 seconds when I filmed nothing but a blank stage as I was also a bit anxious while he was performing.

After his big day, last night at dinner, Luke told me that a third grade girl who has a big crush on Justin Bieber is now in love with him.

This reminds me of the days when I drooled over Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman and others. Did you have a heartthrob when you were younger? I firmly believe that it never hurts to be a kid again, so go ahead and play a little Bieber today. Though Ozzy Osborne might be asking, “What’s a Bieber?”, you won’t be for long!
